Ricky Moore at 2013 Regionals
My First CrossFit Regionals Experience
Jaimie Bougie’s interview with Ricky Moore

Jaimie: This was your first trip to a CrossFit Regional event, as either a spectator or an athlete. How was the overall experience for you?

Ricky: Words cannot describe it – it was so much fun. The crowd was awesome; I’ve never been to anything like that before. I’ve been to nationals for wrestling tournaments and state tournaments, but nothing compares to this past weekend. It is definitely something I’ll never forget for the rest of my life.

Jaimie: Out of all seven events, which event was your favorite and why?

Ricky: My favorite event was the first event, “Jackie”.  Last week when I did it (in practice), I got 7:20, so at Regionals I took a whole minute off.   (Ricky actually PRd by 68 seconds!)

Jaimie: Which one was your least favorite event?

Ricky: Event Six was horrible – those lunges! Even though I was leading the heat through the first few movements, as soon as I picked up that axel bar, it was just a whole other animal!  It was a mental kick in the nuts for some reason and I don’t know why.

Jaimie: Outside of participating as an athlete, what else did you enjoy about Regionals?

Ricky: It was cool to watch the other teams, women and men compete.  But really, I pretty much stayed with the Sea of Green crowd throughout the whole weekend; that was the place to be anyways!  Being with everyone wearing the green shirts!

Jaimie: So now that you’ve had your first taste as a CrossFit Regional competitor, do you have the desire to do it again next season?

Ricky: I would love to go again next year as a team, but if not on a team, then as an individual. Whichever happens – I just want to go again! I just want to experience that all again – it would be a blast!  I know I’m going to improve in the off-season so I’m really excited for it (Ricky was only CrossFitting at Invictus for 6 months before the Open season started).

Jaimie: Speaking of off-season, are there any weaknesses you are looking to improve on before next season?

Ricky: Pull-ups. Pull-ups, pull-ups, pull-ups and then more pull-ups. Muscle ups too, but definitely pull-ups.

Jaimie: Just regular pull-ups or Chest-to-Bar?

Ricky: BOTH.  Doesn’t really  matter which kind – just pull-ups in general! I still hate pull-ups but I’m going to get better at them before next season.

Jaimie: When you were not competing on the event floor, you were often seen walking around with headphones on.  What were you listening to all weekend?

Ricky: Honestly, I don’t know, it was on Pandora.  The station was something Shane (Farmer) told me on Friday and I listened to it all weekend – and actually, I haven’t stopped listening to it since.  It’s the “Childish Gambino” station.  It’s pretty awesome.

Jaimie: Mystery solved!

Go Big Rig. You tore it up. I couldn’t be your judge but I was rooting for you to do well and you did an admirable job. Don’t quit, ever. You will be so glad when you’re twice your age (like me) and rocking the master’s division. Great work man.

Cheers

Solid work Shipmate!!! You’re a beast and it was a pleasure to watch you compete! Also, this interview should have mentioned that he was top 10 in the 100’s WOD. Now THAT is a mental kick in the nuts!

Great job Ricky! And I’m blown away you’ve only been training at Invictus for such a short time and had such success. Stoked to train in the same gym as you. You’ll kill it hard next year man.
