Invictus Athlete Spotlight: Beth Spearman

Invictus Athlete Spotlight: Beth Spearman
Interview by Hunter Britt

Invictus Athlete Beth Spearman is a stud athlete who manages to find a great balance between family, work and training. She works incredibly hard and this is an opportunity for you all to get to know her a little better. After all, we are just big Invictus family!

When and where do you train?

I train at Atomic CrossFit in Stafford, Texas (Southwest suburb of Houston) and I also train in my garage. Since I work three days a week as an elementary school PE teacher as well, my training is usually after school on those days and then in between coaching CrossFit classes the other two days each week. Since I’ve got two kiddos as well, my training begins in the garage, where I get as much done as I can before heading to the gym to finish up with the equipment I don’t have at home.

What was the first workout you ever did in CrossFit?

Gosh, I started doing Crossfit.com workouts back in 2008 at the globo gym. I would box jump onto benches and throw medicine balls in the racquetball court. I can’t remember exactly what I did, but I do remember thinking I needed to only do the “long” workouts because working out for like 5 minutes was a waste of time. LOL. Obviously I had no grasp of the principles of training! Soon after I did my first Fran in a public park with a bar and weights we brought with us. I think it was somewhere around 7 minutes.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of CrossFit?

Sleep. Just kidding…maybe not. 🙂 I like to hang out with my kids and husband when I’m not training. We are always in the process of fixing up our house, so I like to do different projects.

Do you have any hidden talents?

I don’t think so, unless you count the ability to have entire conversations in movie quotes. I’m not sure if that’s a talent or just indicative of how many movies I’ve watched over and over again!

If you could have any post workout meal that has no consequences tomorrow, what would it be?

Cake, with cupcakes on the side and probably cookie or two. I might eat something that wasn’t made of sugar before that so that I would technically eat a “meal” before dessert. You know, so it’s like normal…haha. Can you tell I like sweets??

Do you have anything else you would like to share?

I’m a little older in competitive CrossFit years (I’ll be 35 this summer) and I kept thinking that I was getting too old to do this. Following the Invictus Athlete program helped me prove to myself that I can still compete and enjoy training. Looking forward to what next year brings!
