Jason Nolan
Rest in Peace Jason
Written by C.J. Martin

We received heartbreaking news on Thursday that Jason Nolan passed away unexpectedly in his sleep. Jason was a beloved member of the Invictus community. He brought to the gym enthusiasm, optimism and encouraging words for all around him. He became fast friends with everyone he trained with, and had a sense of humor that could make everyone laugh. He was as full of life and happiness as anyone I have had the pleasure of meeting. To say he will be missed is a gross understatement.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Jason’s family and friends. While we cannot bring them any solace, we may at least share with them stories about the joy that Jason brought to each of us and our community. I invite you to share your thoughts and fondest memories of Jason in the comments below so that we may all relive the fun that he brought to our lives.

Rest in peace Jason, and thank you for sharing your incredible character with the Invictus community.

If I could only put into words just how fun Jason made my recent trip to San Diego and Crossfit Invictus, but I cant. Such a fun, admirable and outgoing guy, full of energy and hopes. Even though I’m back in florida Ill never forget just how awesome It was to meet Jason. RIP my friend, you will be missed.

The news of Jason’s passing has been devastating to all his old co-workers here in NYC. He left T3 Nov 2013 to start a new life in California. He was so full of life, a positive influence to us all. He was an explorer and I enjoyed looking at all his posts of his adventures. Jason just visited NY over three weeks ago and came out for drinks with all his old co-workers. We had a blast and many laughs that are going to last forever. I am so glad I did not skip out on that night. Never thought… Read more »

Truly a great person and someone everybody could learn from. Jason is a guy who would open his heart up and show respect to everyone who he crossed paths with. I am so thankful I was blessed with his friendship.

Thank you so much for posting this. I have the distinct privilege of being Jay’s mom and he was such a great son. Your stories and comments have been very comforting and it’s good to know he was so loved by so many. Thanks again.

It is very hard to fathom he is gone just like that. I will always remember Jason as one of the very first people I met when I moved here a few months ago. He was so personable, as if we had known each other for years. Jason was one of the most giving and positive souls, I have been given the pleasure of knowing. He was always down for any activity, no matter if it was one of our crazy ideas or not. Our comp crew will have a piece missing but he will never be forgotten. Jason, may… Read more »

CJ thank you for this post, I grew up with Jason living around the corner and we used to play all the time. Through the years we were good friends and then both moved out of the neighborhood, a few years ago we got back in touch when I ran in to him at a CF event here in NJ and were well connected since. I remember when he moved to SD last year and was following all of his progress he had been making at your gym and you couldn’t have had a better guy to be a part… Read more »

I’m deeply saddened by the news of my good friend passing away. I started to work out with Jason when he was still living in new jersey and he was slowly transitioning from a power lifter to a crossfitter. Throuh working out together we learned that we shared a lot of common interest outside of working out. I’m really at a loss for words and I still don’t believe that he’s gone. You’re going to be missed brotha..blessings to you and your family

Jason always had a smile on his face. He was one of the most welcoming guys I know. I can’t believe he is gone. The world is sadly looking a great soul.

The news about Jason is truly heart breaking. It seems so recent that we were all together at the beach throwing around the football and then out for lobster tacos. Jason was simply one of the most genuine and positive people I have ever met. On Christmas eve, we had a white elephant party. Jason’s gift that he brought still makes me laugh because it was such a thoughtful white elephant contribution. It included bacon beef jerky, a bottle of Patron silver, and Siracha to-go. I remember thinking, “that is the BEST gift here tonight. I hope I get it”.… Read more »

This past December I decided not to go back east for Christmas break, and somehow or another Jason and I just started powerlifting in his garage. Nearly every day for those 4 weeks. Over that time is when I really got to know Jason. There are no special stories that came out of it. It was just true bro-time, and during that time I got to know this really great person. It’s only been a short time that we became close, but he was easily considered family in my book. I saw a guy that enjoyed every moment of his… Read more »

I’ll never forget one of my first experiences coaching Jason. Dead lifts were on the menu and I told everyone to warm up to 60%. I noticed how much was on Jason’s bar and told him, “Jason, do you know you were only supposed to warm up to 60%?” he replied, “This is only 50%.” I laughed and gave him a high five and told him to carry on. 🙂 What a strong individual. Jason always had a smile on his face and the only complaint I would ever hear from him was when he couldn’t fit enough weight on… Read more »

I remember first meeting Jason when I joined in on a morning comp workout last year. We quickly bonded over powerlifting stories and heavy front squats. When he joined my strength class, he was one of the strongest yet humblest athletes I’ve had the pleasure of working with. He would constantly encourage his training partners, offer great advice, and bring tons of positive energy to the group. Just last Tuesday we cheered him on as he reached a lifetime PR of 605 lbs on his deadlift. I’m glad I was there to share that moment with him. We talked about… Read more »

I had the pleasure of seeing Jason at Invictus Point Loma at least 3 or 4 times a week. He was a staple in Calvin’s strength class and I can honestly say I would know when Jason was dead-lifting even if I wasn’t in the room, the cheers and applause could be heard across the street! Jason was easy to cheer for however, he was a kind and genuine guy who made fast friends with all of his fellow members and had an easy good natured spirit. My fondest memories of Jason were our recent Friday Night Lights, he was… Read more »

I am so sorry to hear about Jason’s passing. He was always smiling and fun to be around. The place nor time mattered not, moving pounds in the gym, or pints at the pub, Jason provided joy and laughter. He was one of the good guys and will be missed. Fair winds, brother.

I had the great pleasure to have many memories with Jason. He celebrated lots of PRs with me over the summer when we first met during competition class. He always carried through his life with a smile on his face. Always welcomed me into his house. He was always very humble and just enjoyed life. Our sense of humors seemed to be very harmonized. We always had a good laugh. I was lucky enough to celebrate my birthday with him, where he taught us all how to own the arcade! Leaving Dave and Busters with over 7,000 tickets won. He… Read more »

Jason was a wonderful friend in the short time that I did know him. He was always making people laugh, myself included on many occasions. He was a pleasure to be around. He was a pleasure to coach (one of the most coachable). He was one of the most veracious learners I’ve met. He seemed to know something about everything, if you had a problem he might have the answer.

You will be sorely missed.

Rest in Peace Jason Nolan.

I am still in shock with hearing this news. Jason was an incredible person. He always had a smile on his face and would light up a room when he walked in. You could not be in a bad mood around Jason. He was always encouraging and had a wicked sense of humor. I knew he was a genuine guy when, after knowing him for only a month, he brought over his good friend Slinky (his friends wiener dog) to keep me company after one of my back surgeries. He and Slinky hung out with me for the afternoon and… Read more »
