Tracking Goals? Mark the X on Your Calendar
Written by Holden Rethwill

All of us have goals. A goal is something that intrinsically drives us. It pushes us to work for something we don’t yet have. But how do you keep yourself in line? How do you make sure you stay on track to achieve those goals?

I was listening to a couple podcasts lately, and one piece of advice really stood out to me. It pertained to marking an ‘X’ on a calendar every day that you had worked towards, or completed, what you had planned for that day regarding achieving your goal.

In my opinion, this is genius! I think having something to look at every day on our journey towards our goals is a great way to hold us accountable. Every day you wake up and look at this calendar, and every night we get to have an honest conversation with ourselves. Did we work towards achieving our goal today? If you can look yourself in the mirror and say that you honestly did what you could on that day (whether you PR’d something or not is irrelevant, it’s about doing what you had on that given day), then you’ve earned your ‘X’ for that day.

Over time you can go back and look at your calendar and see just how dedicated you have been to that goal. If there’s a multitude of days with no ‘X’ on them, then maybe it’s time to reevaluate your goals or priorities. On the contrary, if you’ve got them all marked down, then you’re well on your way to achieving that goal!

If you’re someone who struggles with goal setting and accountability, try utilizing this method and see how it helps you to stay focused!

Keep working and striving to achieve your goals, no matter how big they may be!
