Fun with Furniture Sliders: Mountain Climbers
Written by Michele Vieux

Are you limited on space, equipment or time? Need some ideas for travel workouts? Maybe you’re just looking for something new to incorporate into your routine. Behold, the furniture slider! It’s not just for moving furniture anymore! These babies are inexpensive, take up only a sliver of space in a suitcase, and pack a punch when it comes to the things you can do with them.

Today’s exercise is the Furniture Slider Mountain Climber. These are an excellent way to work the quads, especially for those who are avoiding the impact of running or box jumps. You will certainly raise your heart rate to epic levels if you do them very quickly. Other benefits of this exercise are shoulder strength and stability as well as abs. You will need two sliders for this drill – here’s how to set it up:

Step 1: Get yourself into a perfect push-up plank (resting on your palms) with a furniture slider under each foot. You will be on the balls of your feet in this set-up and should be focusing on being in a hollow body position and externally rotating your shoulders (i.e. elbow pits forward).

Step 2: Keep one leg extended while sliding the other foot forward so your knee is under your hip. Make sure that your back stays flat and level the entire time. Imagine you’re balancing a glass of water on it.

Step 3: Alternate bringing your legs forward and back at any speed you can handle. The faster you go, the more you’ll fatigue your quads and raise your heart rate.

Amazon.com sells 4-packs of the large sliders for $10 so this is a cost-effective solution for equipment. Stay tuned for more fun with Furniture Sliders in the upcoming weeks!
