Congratulations to Our Member of the Month – Graham Hawkes
Written by Libby Landry

October’s Member of the Month is Graham Hawkes. You can frequently find Graham being the flexiest person in the evening classes at Sorrento Valley, and always has a smile on his face. Graham is a meticulous mover, and his dedication to proper mechanics make him a dream to work with as a coach. He spends time outside of group class working with ART specialist, Jonathan Pierce, to ensure that he is taking care of his body and preparing himself for the range of motion in movements that he encounters in class. Graham does not allow his past back injuries to hold him back from pursuing his fitness goals. His dedication to putting in work to make sure he is executing movements in the healthiest way possible is admirable, and sets a great example for the rest of his peers who also struggle with injuries or range of motion hindrances. When he first came to Invictus, he was hesitant to join the group classes and with his hard work and commitment, feels truly a part of the Invictus family.

One of our favorite things about Graham is that he loves to be challenged. Do not let his sweet and kind demeanor fool you, he is competitive. If it comes down to Graham and anyone else in class on the Assault Bike — my money is on Graham. In addition, Graham is he’s always willing to try something new, work on a challenging skill, or perfect his movements. When he first came to Invictus, going upside down was a mental block for him. Now you can find him kicking to a handstand against a wall or into a partner’s arms free-standing. On heavy days, Graham most likely has multiple 45’s on his bar (and we’re still telling him to go heavier)!

Thanks for being you, Graham! You rock.
