Bedroom Oasis

Bedroom Oasis
Written By Bryce Smith

The daily grind is something we are all too familiar with. Rushing out the door with coffee in hand, only to sit in traffic on our way to work, has become a societal norm. In today’s world, we are constantly rushing from one thing to the next, waiting for those two week vacations once a year. We crave to escape the work world in a beautiful place and sleep in a bed that’s comfortable with soft sheets and pillows that are not too firm or too soft. But why wait all year long for that. Why not come home to that everyday?

You can easily improve the energy and flow of your home with a few touches here and there, but for now, let’s focus on your bedroom. Everyone needs a place to lie down and decompress from the world around him or her. We all know how sleep plays an important role in our overall health as sleep enhancement products to either eat or drink are constantly floating around our world. But none of those products matter if where you are sleeping every night is a constant energy of chaos. One of the most important things you can do for yourself in order to get a better night’s rest, like the nights spent on vacation, is to set up your bedroom to be your own personal oasis. Here are a few changes you can make:

Remove Clutter

Get rid of the glasses of water or water bottles on your nightstand. Have a place for your laundry so it’s not all over the floor. Get rid of all those throw pillows and extra decorations. Simplicity is key.

Get Bedding You Love

Spend the extra money on sheets, comforter and pillows that you love, but don’t go overboard in crazy patterns or colors. Find something simple and neutral. And you don’t need a lot of pillows, two will suffice.

Get Rid of Electronics

You don’t need a phone, TV, computer, iPad, or anything that emits a blue light in the room. Leave all that stuff in your living room, and make it a habit of keeping your room as a place for only relaxation and sleep.

Get Curtains

Blackout curtains are your best friend. Yes it would be ideal if we fell asleep and woke with the sun, but that’s unrealistic. So invest in the curtains. And if you’re worried about not getting up on time without your phone, get an old school alarm clock (NOT A DIGITAL ONE THAT EMITS LIGHT!).

Get Plants

Plants have shown to have an abundance of health benefits. From better air quality, boosting your mood and even improving your sleep. So go and buy some plants. Aloe vera, known as the “plant of immortality,” has been shown to emit oxygen at night. Lavender, has been shown to reduce anxiety and stress (two major influencers in insomnia). English Ivy was named the number one best air-purifying plant by NASA, this plant helps reduce airborne mold and contaminants in the air that are major triggers of allergies [1].

Get an Essential Oil Diffuser

This is a great investment. Essential oils are known to help the body in many ways. This is very useful when you’re getting ready for bed. The oils will help your body calm down and get ready for sleep.

Having a little oasis where you can disconnect from the world and recollect yourself will only help you on a day-to-day basis. You’ll begin to see improvement in your overall energy each day.

Thank you for this post. I like the idea of getting rid of electronics the most. For me that’ the number one distraction that doesn’t let me have a proper rest. Would be great to add some decor that will personalize the room. For instance, hanging photos on the wall with LED lights look pretty cool, as well as LED lights on the curtains, just like this
