Are You Buying into the Program?
Written By Bryce Smith

Prior to arriving at Invictus, I never really had a coach in the sport of fitness. I had temporary coaches and friends that I trained with, but never someone who programmed to attack my weaknesses and help me in the areas where I was deficient. I bounced from program to program, doing a little bit of this and a little bit of that and never truly made progress.

I was simply exercising rather than training.

I had no real goals and no direction or method to the madness. I have a degree in exercise science, a ton of certifications, have worked at a university, and have been employed at some of the top gyms in the world, so I was always skeptical of other people’s programming. I never truly bought into any program. I was constantly questioning whether the program was working or not.

Finally, I asked myself why some of my clients were able to reach their goals so fast when they  followed my programs and the answer came to me. In order to reach your goal, you have to have 100 percent confidence in your program and you coach and you have to be highly motivated by both. If you are motivated, you will train hard and get better results.

Once I started working at Invictus, I completely bought into their program. What intrigued me most about the program was the importance placed on lifestyle. Invictus prioritizes recovery, quiet time, sleep, family time, and things outside of the gym. Anyone can put together tough workouts and cycle movements, but the program and people who can keep you motivated and healthy will make the biggest changes in your body and performance. I saw athletes like Nuno Costa, Nichole Dehart, and Melissa Hurley competing for many years and staying injury free.

Before joining Invictus, I wanted to figure out what made Invictus different. What I saw was an amazing community that put emphasis on their “WHY”. The “WHY” being your reason behind training, and what motivates you in the face of adversity when nothing seems to be going your way. I saw Thursday rest days where mobility and maintenance were emphasized and instruction to escape from the gym and spend time with friends was prescribed. I saw a group of individuals who had spent years involved in higher education; they spent time analyzing and experimenting with movements and exercises in search of “what works best.”

At the end of the day, CJ and the Invictus staff have helped me to get results not just as an athlete, but as a fitness professional. There is a reason why all of us at Invictus strive to provide the highest quality experience to our members – it trickles down from the top. We all buy into the program and they way of life here and, as a result, we see results.

Next time you are frustrated with your results in your own gym, ask yourself, are you buying in to your coaches and the exercise prescription? Do you have confidence that they can help you to reach your goals in a timely manner? If you believe you will get results, you can buy into a program and you will be motivated to train harder. When you train harder, you have a higher level of intensity and you get results. This becomes an amazing cycle. When you get more results, you become more confident in the program. This, in turn, gets you even more motivated. And the pattern continues. The key is, you must buy in!
