A Better Halloween Paleo Treat
Written by friends of Invictus and founders of Paleo Treats™ – Nik and Lee
What will you be nibbling on this Halloween? This holiday can be one of the most disastrous for a Paleo eater; lots of processed food & candy available and an entire industry bent on getting you to eat it! The stock answer is to abstain (from eating junk), but abstinence ain’t the way to enjoy life!
The best answer that we’ve come up with is to find desserts or sweets that check off 3 important boxes. First, they shouldn’t have any inflammatory ingredients. Second, they’ve got to taste as good or better than what you find in the office candy basket. Third, the ingredients should be ones that support your health and boost your nutrition.
Finding something that fits all three of those boxes isn’t that hard if you’re willing to look, there are enough Paleo dessert recipes on the net that you could spend the next month making them non-stop and still have enough recipes left to feed everyone at the Games something new next year.
What’s the downside of making your own Halloween treats? Making a batch of Paleo dessert takes time, can take multiple efforts to get right, and the ingredients can get pricey (last time I checked, goji berries were over $30/lb at Whole Foods!) The upside is you have strict control over what goes in them (lots of store-bought options are almost, but not quite, Paleo), and there’s nothing quite like doing something yourself; that’s as true for cookies as it is for deadlifts.
If you’re pressed for time or don’t like messing around in the kitchen, Paleo Treats™ offers 4 different desserts that are totally Paleo, super delicious, and are made by people who understand and are committed to the Paleo diet.
Whichever way you choose to go, there are enough options to get you safely through Halloween this season in fine Paleo style.
