Sage has been involved in the sport of Olympic Weightlifting since the age of four. Her first competition was at age six and she’s been competing ever since!

She grew up in a garage gym filled with nationally ranked athletes (including herself) and World Team members. Everyone was coached under her dad, Mike Burgener (Coach B), the CEO of the CrossFit Weightlifting Course. Anyone who has been coached by this man, knows his love for Olympic Weightlifting. Sage believes that all of that love for weightlifting was passed down to her in utero.

Sage is a head coach on the CrossFit Weightlifting staff where she leads and certifies trainers to become Olympic lifting coaches through the CrossFit Weightlifting Course. She is also the head programmer for the CrossFit Weightlifting website.

Sage’s passion for the sport didn’t TRULY develop until she began coaching seminars at the age of 15. Being the center of attention in a room full of people who are DYING to learn more about the sport she loves so much – what more could a girl ask for?! Her favorite types of people to coach are the athletes who focus more on effort and character, and less on the time on the clock or the amount of weight on a bar.
