Restaurant Review: Enoteca Style (http://enotecastyle.com)
Written by Mike Hom
About the time CJ opened up CrossFit Invictus, he recommended a place right around the corner from the gym to grab some lunch–a tiny wine bar that he said served some pretty delish salads. I can say with delight that Enoteca has exceeded my expectations for a great meal, especially if you’re looking for a great salad.
I’m not going to wax poetic about whether the salads or other menu items are zone or satisfy paleo requirements. Their wine list may be paleo (as far as Cordain is concerned, in quantity) but I’ll leave that dietary choice up to you. Just remember: no drinking and driving.
I love ordering the Peppered Steak salad at this spot. I’m thinking it’s the cremini mushrooms that really accentuate the salad but whatever it is, I’m in love. The flavors stand out and seem to blend into a rich, savory experience with every bite I take. The gorgonzola cheese and oven tried tomatoes add great texture and flavors to the salad. Of course, like I mentioned earlier, the cremini mushrooms just set the whole thing off with the great herb vinaigrette dressing they use. If I’m not mistaken, the salad comes with 4 oz. peppered steak, but I generally order double steak.
I’ve also ordered the spinach and pear salad, which is also a favorite among a few of the Invictus gym-goers and the Invictus staff. It doesn’t come with any meat so if you’re looking for a protein source, you can order chicken or steak to be added to this salad. The goat cheese and honey-mustard dressing make great contributions to the flavor of this salad and the avocado is, of course, a delicious source of healthy fats. I’ve ordered this salad with chicken and with steak (the same steak on the peppered steak salad) and I must say the peppered steak adds a nice kick to the otherwise sweet salad.
Other than a third mention of the Moroccan couscous that a friend ordered when I took her there to eat, I can’t speak about the other menu items. However, friends that I have referred to Enoteca have spouted accolades about their paninis. The India, Elm, and Laurel paninis have been mentioned several times in my presence.
If you’re looking a great place to eat that won’t break the bank and doesn’t make you feel guilty after eating, check out Enoteca Style.

I was not able to post my goodbye the other day to BC, Jill, and family. I just want to say it has been such a blessing to know and workout with you all. Jill, you are a machine! You are an amazing woman inside and out! BC, your heart and dedication are top notch! As for Si and Karis……they are precious! You have a beautiful family and I wish you nothing but the best.
Jill, I will drive to Ventura and watch the kids if you do the Cert…..I don’t break a promise..:)! It was also nice to workout today with “the other brother.”
Best of luck and well wishes……
Taush
I just wanted to say a big heartfelt Thank You to C.J., Michele, and everyone there at CrossFit Invictus for making me feel welcome during my stay in San Diego. You all were so kind and helpful.
Tausha,
It’s always a pleasure hitting the 0930 and seeing your smiling face. It’s been great watching you grow into such a solid athlete and throw around those big weights!
Thanks for the kind words. I’m sure we’ll be seeing you and Frank in the future!
