Workout of the Day:
Five sets of:
Jerk x 1.1.1.1.1
Rest 3 minutes
(Rest 10 seconds between each jerk. The notation 1.1.1.1.1 indicates that you will do one jerk, rack the weight, rest 10 seconds, perform another jerk, rack the weight, etc…until you have completed 5 jerks. You will then rest 3 minutes and repeat for a total of 5 sets.);
and then,
“Sage”
Two rounds for time of:
20 Thrusters (135/95 lbs.)
20 Pull-Ups
20 Burpees

The Invictus Athletes’ Challenge Results

The first Invictus Athletes’ Challenge was even better than I could have hoped for. The competition was great, but the supportive atmosphere was what made it a huge success. All of the competitors pushed themselves to the limit and with rare exception achieved new personal bests. The amount of support from all the spectators made every competitor feel like a champion, and clearly communicated the amount of respect and admiration we all have for those who throw their hat in the ring. As corny as it is to say, everyone was a winner on Saturday. That said, I have already been asked by several folks who follow our site who ended up winning, so I am posting the top three competitors in the male and female advanced categories, as well as the winners of our Masters divisions.

If you missed your opportunity to compete in this challenge, don’t worry. We will have opportunities for our community members to compete every 3 to 4 months. It’s an opportunity to focus your training, set achievable goals, maintain motivation and test yourself in competition.

Happy Birthday Ms. Sage! I’ve only met Sage once, at an Oly clinic, naturally, but she told me she was impressed (or was it surprised? probably surprised) by my flexibility. Considering I’m as old as dirt, I took it as a great compliment.

Quick question, CJ, regarding your March 2, 2010 post on Plan for Success: Does this meal plan include your pre or post workout? When do you normally work out? In the AM right before your breakfast, so it counts as your Post Workout Nutrition as well?

i hope you have the happiest birthday, sage! so many people have already stated this, but you are such an inspirational person. you are a phenomenal athlete and mentor to all of us, and i’m thankful to have been coached by you! thank you for all your wise words of wisdom… even at 6am! xo.
Unfortunately I am out to sea again this week, so I will be modifying all work outs to conform to CrossFit PREBLE standards. So, todays WOD definitely had some modifcations. No kipping pull ups due to the pull up bar being 5 feet tall. No thrusters due to the lack of bar and lack of any space to go overhead. Lastly, no burpees due to the lack of space to jump. So, here was my modified “Sage” WOD. Hopefully I didn’t stray too far from the intent.
4 Rounds for time:
5 Strict Pull Ups
10 50 lb hang squat cleans
20 pull ups
Time: 17:45

I must say, I was lucky that you had an Oly Lifting seminar scheduled during my short stay in the US. True I was juggling between different gyms and training with different instructors but each one of you have left a piece of himself/herself with me.
