What Have You Heard?
Written by C.J. Martin

Part of the fun in working out with others in the CrossFit community is that you see and hear hilarious things weekly, if not daily. I heard an instant classic on Saturday. First, let me provide some background: Baby Belle is three years old. She is the daughter of Tabby Tabberstine (pictured above) and a rock star dad who proudly wears concert t-shirts from some of the finest bands to ever grace the stage, such as Whitesnake, Poison and Def Leppard. Because they were crushing the Filthy Fifty on Saturday, I cranked up the Def Leppard mix, which began with a Journey song. Within moments I was greeted by a VERY excited Baby Belle, who ran towards me and asked, “Do you LOVE Journey?”. I was pretty sure I misunderstood my little three year old friend, so I asked her to repeat the question.  Yep, sure enough, she was asking with a LOT of enthusiasm whether I loved Journey. What could I say? Of course. “ME TOO!”

Two questions – (1) How many three year olds know who Journey is? and (2) What have you heard at CrossFit Invictus recently that made your day?

  1. Check the ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ station on Pandora for all kinds of Journey goodness.

My two recent favs from none other than our very own BC:

    1. “I’m going to get violent” – Referring to his strategy for getting heavy weight up on a recent clean WOD.

    2. “I can reverse curl just about anything” – This gem dropped about 30 seconds after the previous one. Let’s just say that it made for a very entertaining morning.

    More to come…

  2. Background: This past Saturday, I brought in my friend Sarah for her first CrossFit workout (Filthy 50s).

Sunday evening she tells me, “If you see your friend CJ, tell him thanks for me.”
    I reply, “for what?”
Sarah the human says, “My ass is so sore from Saturday morning.”
I chuckle, “Yeah, I’ll tell him Sarah wanted to say thanks for the sore ass…”

I can’t help but see the humor in butt jokes, or any mention of the clean, jerk, or snatch…hehehe

  3. I won’t name names but I’ve had a young girl/woman ask me how my snatch was looking. I’m still sorting out how I feel about that.

    … ;P

  4. Those Stine kids are so cute and witty. Must be because of their rockin’ parents! ;)

Wink – What I meant to say prior Fridays WOD: “I will attempt to maintain a proper lumbar arch followed by an aggressive shrug while quickly turning my elbows under the bar”. Of course, that didn’t happen. Instead, I once again heaved and reverse curled the load in the same manner that a distraught lowland gorilla might execute the movement.

Many things are special and make my day at CFI, but these three come to mind first:

    1) The look on CJ’s face as he busts his funky moves whenever some Brittany comes on. A close second place would be Dani and Christina keeping things light on Oly days by showing us how to properly execute The Cabbage Patch or Running Man.

    2) And how could you not be inspired by ‘Mmmm Good’ tooling around the gym (coffee jug in hand), smiling and kickin’ some Beastie Boys, Tupac or Ice Cube lyrics for our listening pleasure? Girl is always in a good mood!

    3) Anything Calvin has to say always makes my day (although, I’m usually not sure if I should get surgery, stretch something, or just count myself out as a mutant CrossFitter) Cal ROCKS!

  5. After 2 1/2 weeks off, today was not completely horrible.

  7. CJ thanks for pushing me to lift the heavier bar today. For some reason my mind always thinks lighter lighter please… LOL
One thing that I can remember from Crossfitinvictus is; One day as I was sitting doing my thing in the ladies bathroom, I heard I small noise, well I as I looked down under there was a little girl poking her head underneath…. I thought that was quite funny. So watch out for spooky things…

  8. Yadira:

That was Mike Hom disguised as a little girl. Perv.

  9. Oh goodness that would of really scared me… LOL
Have a Great workout for the 5:30 and 6:30 class. There’s a lot of running but you can do it.
