So. 18.4. What a B&$%*! I did it on Friday and only got 71 reps. Not cool.
So I re did it today.
97 reps with 6:28 tie break. Rx.
I got much better on the new standard, even though I hate it. Before I got tired, my heels were 2” above the line. And then when I got tired I had a hard time getting those heels over the line.

That was awesome Janelle!! Congrats! Not sure how you do that with your daughter crying and wanting you…I would have been going crazy. My daughter (7) watched me do this one (first one I’ve allowed her to be in the gym while I’m doing it) and she was so good, didn’t say a word, but she was very emotional after and said “your face was so red and you were breathing so hard..I was scared”.

It was a skit. We have three kids and then were watching two more for a friend. Normally Sunday is our couple wod day and we drop the kids off at mu IL, but we didn’t want to ask his parents to watch two extra kids. So we just brought the whole gang with us. There were other people there, and one of my friends played with the two year old. I was shouting at the 5 year old because she was watching a movie and just wanted me to do something for her. I would have much prefered NOT… Read more »

Tackled 18.4 today…74 reps RX
didn’t do as well as I had hoped…and may consider a redo. But those hspu were tough and really kicked my ass! So many no reps really got frustrating! I’m actually very good at kipping hspu…but I am not used to having to be so close to the wall…something to work on. Did the DL’s 15/6, 5/5/5, 2

Thanx Janelle! I thought about a redo…but right now my shoulders are barking at me and my neck as been stiff…so I don’t think they would be thanking me for a redo. It is what it is…I’m proud to be able to do all that I can at my age.

Well, this one was no good A) 18.4: 27 reps; tiebreak 45” I won’t hide it, I’m terribly disappointed in my performance. DLs were pretty much what I expected, split them in 15/6, I was originally planning to do 11/10 but I felt good and decided to go for 15. What came next was nothing short of disgraceful, so I won’t bore you with the details. Suffice to say, I don’t think that there’s anything I could have done different today or any day of this weekend in order to get a better score. I’m just going to say that… Read more »

Hey Jorge, great work! I feel ya on this crappy feeling of having neglected certain things. You have worked hard these past months though and have been showing up and putting in real effort consistently, so please don’t forget about that. We both had a bad day, but it can only get better from here and it will there’s no doubt about that. Keep your head held high buddy! Only one left… cheers!

You didn’t cut any corners Jorge, you just struggled to do push-ups upside down with a standard that only allows a few inches of lateral deviation in hand placement… I know in crossfit we are often left feeling like we are only as good as our worst weakness, but I challenge you to look at all of your strengths which far outweigh a few weaknesses. Your biggest strength is your heart and love of the fight to get better! Stop thinking about what you should have done differently last year and do EXACTLY what you did last year which was… Read more »

Don’t worry about those HSPUs, just keep getting stronger and practicing your gymnastics moves. I’m a guy who got no repped about 6-7 times and can normally bust out 20+ whenever needed. The standards are great, we just have to get better as a community and improve year over year if feasible. You got this! We’ll all support your growth.

I was sooooo ticked after my first try. I felt like I was set back a full year. Then I adjusted and practiced the new standard and got better and things felt a little more normal.
You didn’t fail. It’s a much harder version and you’ll adjust and make this new movement your bi$&#. ?

St. Paddy’s Day birthday wod. I’m 35 yo… officially a “master” of Crossfit (at least by age group).

For Time

83 meters Blarney Stone carry on chest (100#)
3 Blarney Stone shoulder to overhead
17 Blarney Stone cleans over the shoulder
35 sandbag push press (70#)

13:37

(Blarney Stone = 100# rogue sand d-ball)

Felt great but those cleans over the shoulder were TOUGH!

Although I understand your frustration, because I had a similar experience, Don’t be discouraged! You’ve come so far since you started posting from the guy that would smoke anything with running or light barbell movements, now to a guy who is doing 21 and 15 DLs at 225 UB! Not only that, but you’re killing it on the daily. We all have weaknesses and the Open is set up to expose them. Just browse social media today and you’ll see countless games level athletes upset at their performances because of the HSPU standard. Keep rocking it Joey.
