An Amazing Day for Invictus Athletes!
Today has been the kind of day that needs to be bragged about. Simply put, this cannot wait until Monday. Invictus athletes (and coaches) were competing in multiple events this weekend. Many were participating in the Sectionals workout at Invictus, and others were down in San Antonio, Texas competing in the Military/Armed Forces National Powerlifting Championships.
At Invictus, there were dozens of amazing performances by athletes of all levels. Some were getting their first double-unders, and others were setting fire to the workout in their first competitive event. A few highlights from our advanced athletes:
- Josh Bridges – 410 reps (9 rounds + 5 DUs)
- Coach Nuno Costa – 400 reps (8 rounds + 40 reps)
- Coach Nichole DeHart – 309 reps (6 rounds + 30 DUs + 9 Snatches)
- Ayo Anise – 307 reps (6 rounds + 30 DUs + 7 Snatches)
- Lacie Miller – 303 reps (6 rounds + 30 DUs + 3 Snatches)
- Coach George Economou – 177 reps . . . single-arm snatch with 75 lbs. (Coach E cannot use his right arm overhead right now, but he opted to do the workout anyway, completing 57 reps of the 75 lb. snatch with only his left arm!)
In San Antonio, the Invictus athletes DOMINATED! Five athletes – 3 golds, 2 silvers!
- Coach Calvin Sun – Gold Medal (181 lbs.) and a National Powerlifting Record in the squat!
- Coach Mark Riebel – Silver Medal (198 lbs.) and a National Powerlifting Record in the squat!
- Ron Hess – Gold Medal (165 lbs.)
- Frank Martinezcuello – Silver Medal (181 lbs.)
- Chelsea ? – Gold Medal (148 lbs.) – (coaches Calvin and Mark program for Chelsea, who lives in Texas and is Mark’s classmate)
I could not be more proud of all these individuals. Their athletic accomplishments are phenomenal. To Calvin, Mark, Nuno, Nichole and George thank you for “walking the talk” – for leaving your hearts and souls out there in competition and inspiring all of our members and those you help.
An additional thank you to Calvin, who not only has excelled as an athlete this weekend, but also as a coach. For the last several months he has diligently developed a program that has allowed clients to not only experiment, but also excel in the sport of powerlifting. Calvin, you are an amazing coach and have built a phenomenal program with your insatiable appetite for learning and dedication to the improvement of your athletes. Well done!
