Coach George E. with Sarah "The Human", Tausha and the girls
Happy Birthday George!
Written by C.J. Martin
Coach E is getting old today. He isn’t anywhere close to my state of decrepitude, but today he’ll celebrate his last birthday in his twenties. In his short life, George has already made an immense impact. In his service to his country, friends and family, George has consistently put others before himself and made everyone around him better. This was obvious from the day I met him, and made him the easiest hiring decision an employer could ever make.
I met George a couple of years ago. He was already into CrossFit and had received his Level 1 CrossFit Certification, but we somehow talked him into driving all the way down from Cardiff to join us for workouts at 6 a.m. He was there Monday through Friday like clockwork, and always with a smile and eagerness to get after the WOD. I, on the other hand, was sleepy-eyed, easily annoyed and envious of this guy’s pre-dawn energy. But George’s enthusiasm is infectious, and his influence made me a better coach during those early morning workouts.
When George decided to separate from the Marine Corps, I knew we had to have him on our team. It was the best decision I could have made. George has been the driving force for many of the physical improvements around the gym, the community events and the overall improvement of how Invictus operates.
Please let George know how much you appreciate having him around, or if you’d rather avoid the sentimental, please share a story about George that would be appropriate for a good birthday roast.

Happy Birthday George!!
For many years we have been blessed to share the
great people that CJ has brought into his life. He has
a knack for finding some of the world’s nicest people!
You certainly make that list!! You are a joy to know
personally and a treasure to the business.
The first time I stepped into a crossfit gym to see what crossfit was all about I partnered up with George to hit benchpress/pullup wod. He made me realize how out of shape I was after killing the wod. I didn’t know how to Kip yet so I was barly getting 5-10 pullups. I always had the pleasure of partning up with George because he will bring out the best of you. The guy has some amazing strength and knowledge. I think it has something to do with army/navy rivalry. Which Navy usually whoops up on the Army. Sorry I can’t make it for todays wod. My lower back needs to get better. Happy Birthday George and I always look forward to working out with You.
Happy Birthday George! Hope it is a pleasant one – “Patriots Day” for a true patriotic New Yorker. Nice pic.
Happy Birthday George!! Not only are you an AWESOME athlete…..you are a FANTASTIC person! May your day be filled with sunshine and happiness just like you feel our lives everytime we see you!
Happy Birthday G-Money!
U are always a ray of sunshine at 6am or any other time for that matter……Even though you drink that nasty mate your hair is incredible so I will still be your friend.
Hope you have a great day!
George, what can I say? Thank you for your service to this country and CJ couldn’t have made a better choice to jump you into our gang. Couldn’t be happier you’re on our side.
On a side note, Christina makes a great point. That mate couldn’t look nastier, but your hair couldn’t look healthier.
Jorge, I adore you. Thanks for being part of our mornings.
Your lush, flowing hair is the envy of the gym! It must be the bong water….
CJ, you couldn’t have said it better “George’s enthusiasm is infectious”, and his influence makes for a great start to any day. Its impossible to not to be completely “envious of this guy’s pre-dawn energy” and child like sence of good clean fun.
And the guy is a beast! Built like a honeybadger or Wolverine. I always think of HIM as the Gladiator(pseudonym: Wolverine) in the morning when he’s getting us primed for the WOD.
George,
I still remember the days back at CFSD when Mo and I were attempting to join the notorious 6 am crew. You were one of the most welcoming and supportive people there, your attitude in the mornings and support during a workout made the whole thing a lot easier for a newbie like myself. Thank you.
Now at Invictus, your coaching skills have really begun to shine! You bring your own flair and cheerfulness to each class. You should be really proud of great changes that you are enabling people to make in their life through CrossFit. Ohhh and those kids too!
You are a great friend George, and always a pleasure to be around.
I wish you a very happy, happy birthday buddy.
-Butt Wink
PS, That’s how we dooz it larry.
George,
I remember the first 6AM class that I came to way back in the day, and you were one of the first people to introduce yourself with a smile. Even though you whooped me that day on my first Nancy, having someone to welcome me into the group really made me feel a lot better about the community and that I found the right bunch to hang out with.
But there was something missing. Here was this really straight-laced Marine with a super motivated haircut running circles around me, but he just didn’t seem at peace with himself. The more time I spent around him, the more I could see that he was just suppressing the raw and wild qualities that his hair really possessed. After parting with his beloved Corps, he truly unleashed the beast that is his mane, and he has continued to achieve new levels of coaching greatness. Who knows truly how much more the quality of his teaching will go up with his insatiable appetite for knowledge and his beautiful tresses flowing unbridled in the wind? Woe be to the man (or woman) that ever tries to cut those beautiful locks and risk damaging the Samson-like prowess of his teaching skills!
Happy birthday Jorge!
More than morning food
Biscuit is there all day long
Positive always
Got me through many
Days of work stuck behind desk
With clever Haiku
Funny little guy
Always helping others shine
Gave me Sony!
Happy Birthday, Biscuit!
Wow, I feel like I need to check out an early morning class to see “Little Mister Sunshine” in action!!!
Wishing you a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY GEORGE!!!
If only I could bust out a Haiku like Michele, however I think I will have to settle for a simple Happy Birthday!!!! Have a great birthday George, and just think, only two more weeks until Roar and Snore! Wahooo!
I think the only word to describe George is “GEORGE” Simple yet everyone who has met him knows what a great person he is. I hope you have a wonderful day and that you had a super double MATE today.
To celebrate 16:18 today with a 400M row sub for the run. I am glad you are a young guy otherwise CJ likes to play with those age numebrs in the WOD.
Thanks all for the birthday wishes. I don’t want to sound too corny now, but I feel so lucky to be living the life that I have. I really do get to do what I love, with the people that I want to be with…you. There’s something special about the Invictus community and I’m so happy to be a part of it. Thanks again, see you on Monday at 6am
This is a very belated post, but nonetheless, I couldn’t let the day pass without writing my favorite man a happy birthday message on the website. I love you George, and I feel beyond lucky to have you in my life. Thank you for introducing me to CrossFit, for making a part of the Invictus family, and most of all for becoming the most important and wonderful thing that’s ever happened to me. Happy birthday!
