It’s Party Season at CrossFit Invictus
Written by C.J. Martin
As some of you know, CrossFit Invictus is losing some of its most beloved individuals who have been called to public service outside of San Diego. Our very own Coach Nick Hawkes is off to fight wildfires in Utah for a few months. While we know he’ll be back, his energy around the gym will be sorely missed. Nick’s commitment to school, coaching 8th graders, coaching at CrossFit Invictus, and Navy service has made it tough to pin him down for a going away party, but it wouldn’t be right to allow him to slip out for a few months without at least sharing a meal together. A few of the members of the Invictus family will be heading to Rei Do Gado on 4th Street at 7:45 p.m. tonight. Please come send him off in style.
In addition to Nick’s departure, we will be losing Chris and Jill Freischlag and Ron Hess at the end of the month. Chris is heading to Sacramento for six months of training with the California Highway Patrol, and Ron will be deploying to serve our country overseas. The thought of their departure is heartbreaking, so to combat depression we are going to throw a massive party at CrossFit Invictus on Saturday, May 23 at 6:00 p.m. We will supply delicious meats, fruits and veggies and you all will be responsible for bringing a beverage of your choice. Please RSVP to cj@crossfitinvictus.com so we know how much food to prepare.

Oh I am jealous!!! I want to come to a party at my favorite restaurant with my favorite people!!! Oh, well at least we’ll have Nick for the next few months!! Yay!!
“Snacks” .
Bro be careful out there….
Chris,
Brother thank you for serving in the CHP…. Only if we had more people like you, the world would be better off….
Ron,
Be safe out there and give em’ Hell…. Thank you for your service and their are CF gyms everywhere on the front lines…. Strength and Honor to you brother
Garrrrrrrrr…you could have at least shaved for that picture! Now who am I going to Snatch-a-lot-a-Snax with?!
Jill da’ Beast, you keep practicing those recipes and testing them out on Si. I feel safe knowing that the Bee Charmer will be out there protecting us all!
And TRIPLE PHOOT because Captain Ron is one of my best customers and a dear friend!
LETS NOT LISTEN!!!
Today is the Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony in Washington D.C. I’m reminded of how proud I am to be part of the Crossfit community that is commited to honoring those heros that have served our country and those that continue to serve. From personal experience I know how touching and meaningful this is to the surviving families. Thanks Nick, Chris and Ron for your service and I look forward to your safe return.
Can I get a whoop whoop to our family members who are moving on to serve our country in one way or another? Despite being sad over losing them, I can’t find better people to represent Invictus and the rest of our family.
Nick: Seriously, you’re my brother, dude. I really hope you make the best of this opportunity. I also hope you can persuade Miranda to send more NAUGHTY BARS down this way!
Chris and Jill: You guys represent the spirit of CrossFit and CFI. I am very proud of the achievements you both rightfully deserve and hope you continue to kick ass and take names.
Ron: Stay safe out there and please come back to us. Thank you, thank, thank you for your continued service to this country.
Nick, Chris, Jill, and Ron,
Goodbyes like this are always bittersweet. You’re moving on to the next big events in your lives, and your presence will be sorely missed. All of you. Stay safe and best wishes.
Nicky, thanks so much for your encouragement and coaching. You have made CF so much better for Barry and me not only with your instruction, but just your presence. I hope you and Nova have a fun stay in Utah.
Chris, please remember what Barry and I look like in case you see us speeding along the highways. Just give us a wave and a pass, k? 6 a.m. won’t be the same without you and your incredibly loud shorts.
Ron, take care of yourself and come back to us soon. Thank you so much for defending our country.
This has been the biggest adjustment for me since CrossFit became a part of my life. I have met some of the greatest people and friends I have ever known in my life, but they are always pulled away to new adventures in their life. Selfishly I wish that we could freeze this moment in time and I could always get to workout and coach with these amazing people. But, I know that there are new adventures for you all to experience and you must touch the lives of others the way you have touched mine.
Snax, you are like a brother to me and I love you very, very much. I will miss you dearly, but take peace in knowing you will come home. Frolick in the woods for me. See you at BW…wouldn’t miss it for anything.
Ron, your heart and commitment to always being the best you can be has been such an inspiration. You are what I like to call ‘good people’. We will miss you. Please keep in touch and do great things…I know you will.
Jillianne and Bee Charmer, this one is tough for me. I adore you both and your kiddies very much. I will miss you guys tremendously. I wish you many blessings and happiness in your new home. You have not got rid of me…Ventura is not that far away and I am not afraid of a road trip.
Have a good day CFI.

Nick, Chris/Jill, and Ron -
Good luck and be safe! Thank you all for your service.
Snax Hawkes! My brotha from anotha motha. I will miss you, and especially miss saying ‘Hi Hawkes’ – ‘Hi Hawks’!! I guess we will have to wait another 6 months to find out who the real Ni/ck Hawk/es really is. Thank you for your encouragement and support the past few years, you are a very special dude.
Ron – sheesh, what to write. Ron, you are an angel. You have supported me unconditionally from the day you arrived. Walking into the gym and seeing your orange shirt always made me SO happy! Thank you a thousand times over for standing by my side as I finished workouts, and usually only because you were there. Another thousand thank you’s for your service. I (and CFI) will miss you tons.
BC & J! You guys are stellar and will be missed so much. BC, thank you for all the shout outs and support. Although I didn’t get to see you as much at CFI, your enthusiasm has cheered me on day after day. I wish you the absolute best on your new adventure. Jill! I was looking across at you the other day during a warm up and thinking, wow, that woman is badass. You have rocked your time at CrossFit and are an inspiration to me and all the other ladies at the gym. Good luck on the move!
-ali incredible.
Hey, we have until May 28th before we have to get all sad and stuff.
Until then, I’m getting in as many WODs as I can and visiting with each one of you as much as possible!
Thanks to everyone for the kind words
My favorite quotes from Snax: “You start CF for the great workouts and stay for the great community” and “Go, BC, go!!”
My first WOD ever was a Fight Gone Bad. You were telling me to put my hands closer on the push-press. I still was only able to get a minimum amount of reps, but you made me feel like I did great and told me that I would do better if I kept at it. I wanted to come back because you took one minute to evaluate my form and told me what I did right.
You represent the community in a pure and solid way. You are a stand up guy and I always have appreciated your uplifting and positive view on life. I could always count on you for a smile, trading some sea stories, and I always benefited from your coaching.
You were/are a major reason why I love to CrossFit. You’re the real deal dude. Knock ‘em dead this summer bro!
Ron- Thanks for your service brother. It’s guys like you who make the world safe. Keep your head down and boots dry.
