The Weekend Report – What’s Going On At Invictus

Written by C.J. Martin
There’s never a dull moment at Invictus. Just since January 1, we have launched a new website, finalized construction of our offices, and organized several events – which will kick off over the weekend and next week! With everything going on, I want to make sure I take a little bit of time to address some of the changes and give you the heads up on what is happening around Invictus.
It’s Party Time!
First and foremost, I hope everyone is aware and received both a letter in the mail and an email about the Invictus Three-Year Anniversary Party (if not, please check in with us to update your account information). The anniversary party will be this Friday night from 6:00 to 9:00-ish. We are hoping that all of our members can make it to the event to help us celebrate and remember moments from our first three years. We will be recognizing some of our members for their accomplishments and their roles in helping to develop the culture of Invictus. We will also be providing some great appetizers catered by local restaurants, but ask that you bring your own beverages – that way you can enjoy any kind of drink you would like (whether we could legally serve it or not). It will be a “fancy” party – meaning that you should not be in gym attire. Shane will likely wear a tuxedo, Sarah (the Dingo) probably won’t wear anything . . . you should probably be somewhere in between on the scale of “fanciness.” We hope to see you all there!
An Onslaught of Athletes
If you happen to notice an additional 55 really fit looking folks rolling around Invictus the next few days, that’s because they are really fit. This weekend we are hosting our first Athletes’ Training Camp. The camp participants are members of our exclusive online coaching program (and a few guests of those members). While these guys don’t train within the walls of Invictus, they have earned (through their tolerance of the punishment…er, training I give them) the status of honorary Invicti. And more than a handful of them will be competing at the 2012 CrossFit Games . . . which means the Sea of Green will have to rev it up extra loud to give all these honorary Invicti the love and support they need to be at their best in competition.
These athletes are in town for events Friday through Monday to learn from some of the talented Invictus coaches, as well as three of my heroes and mentors – Coach Mike Burgener, Carl Paoli and Kelly Starrett. The goal of the camp was to provide these athletes with the very best coaching we could, and I don’t know anyone better in their respective areas than these three. We also have some amazing speakers coming in, our very own Heidi Fearon who has brilliantly worked with all of our competitive athletes to keep them healthy, calm and focused for competition, and Denis Waitley – former chairman of Psychology for the U.S. Olympic Committee’s Sports Medicine Council and author of “The Psychology of Winning,” “The Winner’s Edge,” “Seeds of Greatness” and several other international best sellers. Needless to say, I couldn’t be more excited about the event.
Gym Closed Friday Evening and Saturday
In light of the first two announcements, the only bad news is that we will have to close the gym Friday afternoon after 2:00 p.m. so that we can prepare and set-up for the three-year anniversary party. We will stay closed through the weekend as the gym will be wall-to-wall with athletes learning and practicing new skills and strategies. Schedule will be back to normal on Monday.
A New Opportunity to Score the Best Gear
With our office build-out, we now have the opportunity to utilize the previous office space to display some really cool gear. We will keep it stocked well with our Invictus t-shirts, hoodies, tanks, etc…. But we’ve also got a new surprise that some of you may have noticed. Starting very soon, we will be selling Reebok CrossFit shoes and clothes from Invictus. Starting tomorrow you will be able to view, touch and feel the merchandise we will be selling. We can help you order online for the first week or so, and then after that you will be able to shop and buy Reebok gear directly from Invictus.
Ok, I think that’s all for now. If you have any questions though, please ask to comments and our coaches and I will do our very best to get them answered in a timely manner.
Hope to see you all on Friday night!!!
