Weekly update

Track on Wednesday proved to be full of surprises.  We had the athlete’s run in the opposite direction on the track, we don’t do it often but I am thinking we will do so more often.  The work portion was 5 minutes of running at faster than 5k race pace and rest for 2 minutes, and complete 4 rounds.

We discussed race day nutrition for different events as well and there were some sample from San Diego Running Insitute of Honey Stingers – both the chews and the gels.  People seemed to really like the chews and we looked at the # of calories that each provided and discussed what would be appropriate.  I always suggest to try your nutrition before your race during your training so its nothing new on race day, so this provided people with a few different ideas about what to try next.

In attendance at the track:  Miné, Michael Bellock, Walden, Fonda, Ed, Brandle, Angel, Johannah,  Mello & Nairobi.

We also talked about ordering some more Invictus Endurance sport tech shirts with our cool new spiffy logo – we will put in an order in the next couple of weeks :)

Saturday morning run – 5k @ 80% effort/race pace

Miné – 23:59 – with strong legs comes overworked quads, we discussed some alternative methods of healing such as massage, acupuncture and maybe even ordering some compression pants – I just got mine from BSC Gear and absolutely love them.

Jose – 25:15, ran a faster time than at the beginning of the season, looking forward to the race next weekend to see what happens J

Andrew Borrelli – 27:02,  a little slower than last time, but its probably because he was on a 28 hour conference all, who does that… get some sleep my friend and eat healthy

Angel – 18:52, he may have missed the turn around point again, oops

Jonathan –35, shoulder/neck bothering him a little

We talked about running with music and what some of the benefit vs drawbacks might be.  It may help you relax and find a rhythm you can keep, but it also may not help you be aware of your surroundings, how you are feeling and so it’s the kind of thing that you can practice with, but probably not the best to race with- although people do it all the time
