Meet the Intern – Randy Thompson
Interview by Jaimie Bougie
Jaimie: So tell us – What’s your name, who are you, where are you from? Is this your first time in SoCal?
Randy: Randall Thompson. Call me Randy. I’m an exercise science major from the University at Buffalo. I have family in LA, so I try to come to SoCal every 2 or 3 years.
Jaimie: What has your Crossfit experience been like thus far?
Randy: I’ve been CrossFitting since April of 2009. I’ve never had a coach, so I have some bad habits. I am level 1 certified and have attended the olympic lifting, gymnastics, and mobility seminars.
Jaimie: Why did you choose Invictus as your place for internship, other than that we are an awesome bunch?
Randy: For my major, I have to complete and internship at a health and wellness related site that is related to what I want to pursue after graduation. Some people go to a physical thearapy clinic or a cardiopulmonary rehab site, but I want to open my own CrossFit gym so I came here to learn from the best coaches and athletes in the world.
Jaimie: What do you hope to gain from this experience?
Randy: I know there are many areas as a coach and an athlete that I need to work on, but I love learning about weaknesses I didn’t know I had. I hope the coaches and members here will help me understand what goes into creating world class athletes and an unparralelled community.
Jaimie: Ok, now onto the important questions. What is your favorite music to have on while working out?
Randy: Classic rock. Get me some AC/DC and I’m good to go.
Jaimie: What is your favorite workout/least favorite workout and why?
Randy: I don’t really have a favorite workout. I like anything that I am able to do unbroken. It’s a big confidence booster. Least favorite would have to be any kind of long chipper like the ‘Filthy 50′. Logistically, I hate having to have 10 different stations and having to remember the order of all the exercises. It’s more fun to keep it simple.
Jaimie: If you were an animal, what animal would you be and why?
Randy: El Chupacabra. I really like lamb and I think it’d be pretty cool to be the star of a ghost story.

This blog post is not complete without a mention of Randy’s Buzz Lightyear sweatshirt.
You’re correct Mary. In fact, last night it dawned on me that Randy probably needs a nickname, and I believe “Buzz” would suit him well. From this day forth, we shall call him “Buzz.”
I like it.
Welcome Randy!! You have a great smile, attitude, and you already know how to spell my name!! =)
