CrossFit Games 2012 is upon us and we’ve been training long and hard to represent the Sea of Green as Team Invictus.
As a member of Team Invictus, this will be my third year going to the Games . . . and I’m not the only one. Katie McLaughlin, Nichole Dehart, Nuno Costa, and Justin Nahama will be attending their third CrossFit Games as members of Team Invictus. Ayo Anise will be making her second trip. Combined we have 17 years of CrossFit Games experience.
What I really wanted to express however, is not how much time we’ve spent doing this, but the gratitude we all feel for the Invictus community at large. From every member that physically walks into the gym to the online members, and even those people that just wear Invictus Green at the games for support.
YOU are the spirit of Invictus and it’s important that you understand how much of an impact you have. Think of yourselves as the fuel and the driver of the Invictus F-1 Car. We’re just the engine. With training we’ve been tuned and tweaked to do work. We’ll go as hard as our capacity allows and in the heat of the race we’ll perform.
An engine, however, is nothing without the proper fuel and driving. That’s where all of you come in. When you put on your Invictus Green and show up en masse to cheer from your heart, it’s what really makes the car move. As a team we thrive on your excitement and support.
More times than I can remember I’ve heard “INVICTUS, INVICTUS” coming from the stands at a point when I thought I had nothing left, only to dig from within to somehow find another gear. A gear that seems reserved for all of you. A gear I can’t tap into on my own. Those cheers, and that extra push to be my best, creates vivid moments in my memory that will stand forever as some of the most exciting experiences I’ve ever had.
It’s with deep gratitude that as I gear up for this years Games I find my soul settled from experiences with all of you in the past, thankfulness for the opportunity to represent all of you on the field of battle, and acceptance that wherever we finish this year, it’s where we’re supposed to be, and we wouldn’t have gotten there without all of you.
“It matters not how strait the gate, how charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soul.” Thank you Invictus community for all that you do.
Yours in Invictus,
Shane Farmer and Team Invictus
